Outlog Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 October 2026
Outlog marks the days you leave home. It is designed so that your data never leaves your devices.
What Outlog does with your location
- You set a home location once. Outlog stores its coordinates on your iPhone and asks iOS to notify the app when you leave a radius of about 100 metres around it.
- When iOS reports that you have left, Outlog records only the date of the exit. It does not store where you went, your route, timestamps during the day, or any location other than the home point you chose.
- Location processing happens entirely on your iPhone using Apple's Core Location. Outlog has no server and does not transmit your location or exit history anywhere.
Data stored on your devices
- Home location coordinates and radius
- The dates on which you left home
- The dates on which tracking was active
- Your preferences
This data is kept in the app's private storage and in a shared container that only the Outlog app, its widgets, and its Apple Watch app can read. It is copied to your Apple Watch over the encrypted Apple Watch connection so the Watch app and complications can show the same calendar. If you use iCloud device backup, this data is included in your device backup like any other app data.
What Outlog does not do
- No analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting services
- No advertising or tracking identifiers
- No accounts, sign-in, or personal details
- No third-party SDKs
- No sale or sharing of data with anyone
Your control
- Export: Settings → Data → Export Data as CSV produces a file containing the dates only; your home location is never included.
- Delete: Tap Clear Home Location in Settings to stop tracking, or delete the app to remove all data. Deleting the app also removes the shared container used by widgets and the Watch app.
- Permissions: You can change or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Outlog. Outlog needs "Always" access to detect exits while it is not open; with "While Using" it can only check when you open the app.
Children
Outlog does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children. It is rated 4+.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new date.
